Sagging wires on roads, hitting heads on walls
Reading with the moonlight
Finding the way with hands and losing our sight because the bulbs went blank
Thunder storm disconnects wires
The rain sweeps our transformers
The dark sky fills the minds of their workers
All not thinking right and switches off the light
In all we wait for Biafra.
Our country, controlled by the head of the heads of states
Still, the heads of innocent citizens roll
Money taken to bunkers, humans brought to the sun
The dead posted on naira, the living led to the slaughter
We become handicapped when their hands borrow
In all we wait for Biafra.
Driving to a healthy nation
Until all stations were derailed
They left us with no option
Then brought corruption to our market square
And led our currency, goods and food to inflation
Spilling saliva on our faces
So we won’t see the hands deep down their pockets
Finally, we’re told it’s all eaten by snakes and rats
In all we wait for Biafra.
Hated for tribe
Killed for our religion
Flagged out from posting thumbs because of our looks
Denied the right to rule
Announcing one nation on television
Go watch behind the scenes
That’s the only truth in our announcements, if it’s still valid
Cupcakes filled with lies
They eat and forget what truly transpired
Then announce what shouldn’t happen
But, in all these we wait for Biafra.
We’ve not seen Biafra
I just call it freedom
Where foodstuffs are sold with low price tags
When we fight for what’s ours without fear of punctured tyres
Where the heads of citizens are higher than hands deep down pockets
Where youths pursue passion not income
This is the freedom we wait for in Biafra.
