In My Country by Goodness Makuochukwu.

In My Country.

Walking through the land of this nation.

With tears of untold sorrow.

Unexplainable pain.

The hopes of youths lie only in education.

This one thing that prospers the youth is almost denied.

It was once believed, not all will be educated.

What’s our hope?

Both the educated and non–educated are all traders.

I cannot still explain the pain and tears in my heart and eyes.

A great rich nation is seen as the fall of Africa.

It seems as if the toil of man written in the holy book affects this nation the most.

Why are young people who loved to see themselves in offices blinded by laws and policies?

Laws of the strike when the youths have to strive.

The rich grow richer.

The poor become poorer.

This does not affect the faith and conscience of the leaders.

How a once green nation has turned to grasses without chlorophyll during their time.

Going on strike with hopes of being paid.

Still, they saw nothing.

The dead died.

The compensation given was no work no pay.

Enjoying all wealth and power.

Forgetting that someday we all will be called back home.
